Boater recovered after search in Quitman County, Panola County teams assist

Quitman County officials requested assistance from the Panola County Water Operations and Dive Team on April 18 to help locate a missing boater. The team includes personnel from Panola County and the Panola County Sheriff’s Office.

Search efforts, conducted in coordination with Mississippi Game and Fish, involved local and state agency equipment as well as volunteer resources. Divers worked into the night before suspending operations until morning.

At daybreak, additional resources from agencies including Mississippi Game and Fish, Tallahatchie Emergency Management Agency, Coahoma Search and Rescue, and Crowder Fire Department joined the search. Using sonar technology, the victim was located, and divers recovered the boater.

Officials expressed gratitude to all agencies and volunteers for their cooperation. The family of the victim has been offered support and condolences, according to the agencies involved.
