Arctic Blast Brings Dangerous Cold and Wind to Mississippi
An Arctic front is sweeping into Mississippi, bringing dangerous cold and gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.
Forecasters warn that wind chills could drop below 5 degrees Fahrenheit tonight, with subzero wind chills possible. Cold temperatures will persist into Sunday, with lows potentially as low as 10 to 15 degrees.
The cold snap raises concerns of frostbite and hypothermia, especially with prolonged exposure. A long-duration hard freeze could damage exposed pipes and cause water main breaks, officials said.
In the northwest Delta, ongoing power outages, snow and ice cover, and slick roads are making travel hazardous. Strong winds may also damage weakened trees, especially those affected by the recent ice storm, complicating recovery efforts.
Authorities advise residents to take precautions against the cold, limit outdoor exposure, and remain alert to weather updates.
