Winter Storm to Bring Mix of Precipitation, Cold Temperatures to Mississippi Area
A wintry mix of precipitation is forecast to hit much of the region starting Friday afternoon or evening in the ArkLaMiss Delta and spreading southward through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson, Mississippi.
The storm could cause hazardous travel conditions, downed trees, and power outages, the agency warned. Along with the winter weather, a much colder air mass is expected to move into the area, with temperatures and wind chills dropping into the single digits and teens by Friday night and Saturday morning in the ArkLaMiss Delta and other parts of the region Sunday into Monday.
Officials warned that prolonged exposure to the cold could lead to hypothermia, and exposed pipes are at risk of freezing and bursting. The weather service noted that the system is still more than 48 hours away in some areas and 3 to 4 days in others.
Residents are advised to monitor the latest forecasts and prepare for potentially severe winter conditions in the coming days.
