Waterfowl hunts and WMAs open for pre-drawn hunters amid weather concerns
Several wildlife management areas in Mississippi will be open for pre-drawn waterfowl hunters on Jan. 24 and 26, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.
Mahannah and Phil Bryant WMA Timber Units will be open for hunting on those dates. Instead of stand-by draws, the units will be open for general hunting, with check-in still required via the MDWFP HuntFish app or paper user cards.
Additionally, Charlie Capps, Howard Miller, Muscadine, Mahannah (pre-drawn units), Trim Cane, and Tuscumbia WMAs remain open for pre-drawn hunters. Due to potentially dangerous weather and travel conditions, waterfowl hunts at these WMAs will only be available to pre-drawn hunters and their parties. No stand-by opportunities will be offered on those days at the listed areas.
All other WMA regulations continue to apply. The agency urges hunters to be aware of weather updates and plan accordingly.
