Washington County officials praise community efforts during winter storm recovery
Washington County officials announced they have maintained constant contact with utility providers amid ongoing recovery efforts from Winter Storm Fern. Officials said utility partners have inquired about ways they can assist, but county leaders emphasized their focus on supporting the utility workers and community members.
Over the past week, local businesses have helped by housing and feeding linemen and by clearing debris to facilitate utility repairs. Residents also volunteered to remove fallen trees and debris, aiding quick response times.
County officials received praise for community members’ cooperation during the storm. They credited residents for pitching in to help restore power and water services. Officials added that nearly 2,800 utility workers remain on scene, with power expected to be restored to everyone by Feb. 1, according to utility companies.
Officials encouraged residents to support local businesses that provided aid during the storm, many of which lost revenue while assisting with repairs. They also urged residents to thank utility workers, including linemen, for their efforts in restoring services.
Representatives from Entergy Mississippi, Delta Electric, the Mississippi Development Authority, and the city of Greenville reaffirmed their commitment to restoring services and supporting the community during this recovery period.
