Storm damage surveys confirm nine EF-1 tornadoes in Mississippi and Louisiana

Damage surveys from storms that struck Wednesday night are still underway. The National Weather Service in Jackson confirmed nine EF-1 tornadoes within its forecast area, while the NWS Slidell office reported three tornadoes in Pike County, Louisiana.

These tornadoes were part of a larger system that also caused widespread straight-line wind damage, complicating the survey process, according to officials. Crews are working to assess the affected regions and ask for patience as they complete their evaluations.

Today, survey teams plan to evaluate additional areas in Lawrence and Covington counties. If time permits, they will also examine parts of Marion and Lamar counties, NWS officials said.
