Severe Weather Alert Issued for Coahoma County

Coahoma County officials and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency received a weather briefing Sunday morning regarding an impending severe weather threat. The National Weather Service has placed the area under an enhanced risk, or Level 3 of 5, for severe weather through Sunday night.

A strong cold front is expected to pass through the region this evening, bringing the potential for damaging storms and strong winds. Forecasters warn of wind gusts exceeding 75 mph and embedded tornadoes that could spin up quickly within storms.

The primary threats include damaging winds, heavy rainfall in stronger storms, and non-thunderstorm wind gusts ahead of and behind the front. A fast-moving line of storms is forecast to move from west to east across Coahoma County this afternoon and early evening.

Officials advise residents to stay alert and follow safety precautions as the weather system approaches. No injuries or damage reports have been confirmed at this time.
