Panola County Sheriff’s Office Launches Special Needs Awareness Program
In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, Sheriff Shane Phelps and the Panola County Sheriff’s Office announced the launch of the Special Needs Occupant Awareness Program.
The initiative is designed to help first responders quickly identify homes or vehicles with individuals who have special needs. The program aims to facilitate safer, calmer, and more informed emergency responses, according to the sheriff’s office.
Participation is voluntary. Qualified applicants will receive notification decals for their vehicles or homes. Enrollment allows families to share emergency communication details and safety information with responders.
The sheriff’s office credited community members, including Mrs. Latorria Cosia Moore, April Casey, and Kianna Thompson, for providing input and support for the program. Officials emphasized the goal of building a safer, more understanding community.
Enrollment is now open. For questions, residents can contact Amber Brown or Ashley Raines at 662-563-6230.
