Panola County opens warming centers during cold snap

Several warming centers in Panola County are opening to provide residents with a place to warm during cold weather. These centers are not shelters and do not offer food. Bottled water will be available at each location, but pets are not permitted, and facilities are not equipped to secure animals.

The centers will open as needed when power is available, operating from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Tuesday. Locations include the Crenshaw Fire Department at 100 East Missouri Ave., Cistern Hill Church at 16786 MS Highway 310 in Como, Batesville First Baptist Church at 104 Panola Ave., and Hosanna Family Worship Center at 586 Hentz Road in Pope.

Additionally, the Batesville Civic Center at 290 Civic Center Drive will open at 10 a.m. Saturday and remain open 24 hours until 5 p.m. Tuesday. The civic center is equipped with a backup generator to maintain power during the cold snap. A dedicated room will be available for individuals with electric medical devices, such as oxygen concentrators or ventilators, if they bring their own equipment.
