Panola County Opens Warming Centers Amid Cold Weather

Panola County has opened warming centers to assist residents during cold weather conditions. The facilities are designated solely for warming purposes and are not intended to serve as shelters.

All centers do not provide food, but bottled water will be available. Pets are not permitted, as the centers are not equipped to secure animals. Centers will operate when needed and when power is available, with hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Tuesday.

The centers include the Crenshaw Fire Department at 100 East Missouri Ave., Cistern Hill Church at 16786 MS Highway 310 in Como, Batesville First Baptist Church at 104 Panola Ave., and Hosanna Family Worship Center at 586 Hentz Road in Pope.

Additionally, the Batesville Civic Center at 290 Civic Center Drive will open at 10 a.m. Saturday and remain open 24 hours until 5 p.m. Tuesday. The civic center has a backup generator to ensure power, and a dedicated room will be available for individuals with electric medical devices, such as oxygen concentrators and ventilators, if they bring their own equipment.
