Officials warn of worsening road conditions amid ongoing winter storm

Officials are monitoring road conditions through cameras, reports from officers, other agencies, and weather outlets, according to a local spokesperson.

Current conditions show slushy roads, but temperatures are expected to fall further, making roads slick and dangerous. The freezing rain and sleet are forecast to persist and worsen overnight.

Temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing for the rest of the week, raising concerns about deteriorating driving conditions. Although roads are currently passable thanks to pre-treatment efforts by the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the city of Batesville, officials warn that conditions could change rapidly.

Residents are advised to stay home if possible. For non-emergency issues, contact dispatch at 662-563-5653 and press 1. In emergencies, dial 911. For downed power lines, call the non-emergency line.
