Mississippi wildlife officials collect over 6,800 samples for CWD testing
Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks has collected more than 6,800 deer samples during the 2025 hunting season for Chronic Wasting Disease testing, according to agency officials.
Since July 1, 2025, 117 positive cases have been detected. These numbers are preliminary and may change as additional samples and results are received, the department said.
MDWFP encourages hunters and taxidermists to continue submitting samples during the final weeks of the season. Officials emphasized that hunters play a key role in monitoring and managing CWD in the state.
The department expressed appreciation for the ongoing participation of hunters in efforts to track and control the disease.
