Mississippi wildlife agency hosts prescribed fire workshops for landowners

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks thanked participants for attending recent prescribed fire workshops. The events aimed to educate private landowners and managers on using fire as a tool to improve wildlife habitat.

Participants received hands-on experience and engaged with certified burn experts. They learned how to safely implement controlled fires on their properties, asking questions to deepen their understanding, according to department officials.

The workshops were funded by the Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund and partnered with organizations including the U.S. Forest Service, Mississippi Forestry Commission, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Mississippi State University Extension Service, Mississippi Wildlife, The Nature Conservancy, Mississippi Prescribed Fire Council, and Mississippi Forestry Association.

The department encourages the public to follow their social media accounts for future fire workshop opportunities. More information about using prescribed fire as a habitat management tool is available on their website.
