Mississippi prepares for upcoming turkey season with new regulations and digital reporting
Mississippi’s turkey hunting season is approaching, with youth hunters set to begin on March 7 and the regular season opening March 14, according to state wildlife officials.
Hunters are advised to purchase a Wild Turkey Stamp or Exempt Turkey Game Check. These can be obtained at licensed vendors or through the MDWFP HuntFish app, which replaces previous versions and is required for digital reporting.
After purchasing the stamp or game check, hunters will see reporting options in their HuntFish app account within 48 hours. Each hunter receives three game checks per season, one for each turkey legally harvested. Harvests must be reported via the app before moving the bird from the site.
Digital reporting is fully legal, eliminating the need for physical tags. However, physical tags are still available at in-person vendors. Hunters must notch and attach the tag to the turkey’s leg before moving it and report the harvest to MDWFP by 10 p.m. on the same day.
