Mississippi prepares for potential severe storms as cold front moves through

Jackson, Miss. — The National Weather Service in Jackson reports scattered light rain showers across the region this morning. A cold front is expected to bring increased chances of rain and thunderstorms later this afternoon and into the evening.

Forecasters warn that isolated severe storms could develop, with hail up to a quarter size possible in parts of North and Central Mississippi. Despite the front’s passage, temperatures are not expected to drop significantly and will remain seasonably warm heading into the weekend.

Residents are advised to stay alert for changing weather conditions and seek shelter during storms. The weather service will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as necessary.
