Mississippi Department of Wildlife Spreads Lime to Improve Shadow Lake Water Quality

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) recently spread 300 tons of agricultural lime into Shadow Lake at Roosevelt State Park. The effort aims to improve water quality by balancing water chemistry and making nutrients more effective, according to MDWFP officials.

Lime supports the growth of phytoplankton, the algae that form the foundation of the lake’s food web. These blooms provide crucial early-stage food for young fish, promoting stronger recruitment and healthier fish populations, the department said.
