Mayor Simmons urges residents to stay off roads amid ice storm warning
Mayor Errick D. Simmons has issued a warning as an ice storm warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. CST today, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson, Mississippi.
In a statement, Simmons urged residents to stay off the roads unless travel is essential. He warned that ice accumulation could reach up to one inch, with sleet up to three inches, and that the storm could cause extended power outages, downed trees, and damage to power lines.
Simmons advised residents to prepare for prolonged outages and take safety precautions. He recommended keeping flashlights, blankets, water, medications, and charged devices on hand. He also urged drivers to exercise extreme caution if travel is unavoidable and to report power outages to their electric providers.
