Ice Storm Warning Issued for Parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi
An ice storm warning has been issued for parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, with officials warning of significant icing that could cause power outages and tree damage.
The National Weather Service predicts up to one inch of ice accumulation, with additional sleet possible, from 6 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Sunday. The affected areas include Ashley and Chicot counties in Arkansas; East Carroll, Morehouse, Richland, and West Carroll parishes in Louisiana; and Bolivar, Humphreys, Issaquena, Leflore, Sharkey, Sunflower, and Washington counties in Mississippi.
Authorities advise residents to consider delaying all travel during this period. If travel is necessary, drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution and prepare winter storm kits, including tire chains, booster cables, flashlights, shovels, blankets, water, and first aid supplies. Officials warn against touching downed power lines and ask residents to report outages to their electric companies.
Travel is highly discouraged due to slick roads and the potential for downed trees and power lines, which could make travel impossible. The warning aims to minimize injuries and property damage as the storm impacts the region over the weekend.
This alert was issued by the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and distributed via the Regroup Mass Notification Network.
