Greenwood/Leflore community demonstrates resilience amid severe weather

Greenwood and Leflore County have showcased resilience over the past few days as residents navigated severe weather conditions. First responders worked nonstop to clear roads, assist with transportation, and provide food and shelter, according to local officials.

Greenwood Utilities has been operating around the clock to restore services to more than 2,000 families. Efforts are ongoing to ensure everyone has power and access to essential services, officials said.

The community also expressed gratitude to volunteers who donated their time, food, and resources to support recovery efforts. Additionally, Atmos responded promptly to a gas leak to protect residents’ safety.

Though weather conditions have improved, officials warn residents to remain cautious due to lingering ice on trees and roadways. The Andrew McQueen Civic Center remains open as a warming station for those still without power.

City services, including trash and garbage pickup, will resume once it is safe for crews to operate. Authorities continue to urge residents to stay safe, watch out for each other, and uphold the community’s resilience, officials said.
