Greenville youth basketball players honored after NBA halftime appearance
Ten youth basketball players from Greenville were honored Tuesday during a city council meeting after participating in a halftime scrimmage during the Memphis Grizzlies versus Denver Nuggets NBA game on March 18.
The players, part of the Greenville Parks & Recreation Jr. Youth Basketball program, had the opportunity to showcase their skills on an NBA court and enjoy the game day atmosphere. The event was made possible through a partnership with the Memphis Grizzlies organization, according to city officials.
Mayor Errick D. Simmons and other city leaders expressed their appreciation for the partnership and highlighted the significance of providing youth with impactful experiences. Parks & Recreation Director Kyla Winford was also recognized for her dedication to creating opportunities that foster confidence and growth among Greenville’s youth.
The city of Greenville said it is proud of the young athletes and plans to continue offering programs that inspire and empower local youth. Officials emphasized that such initiatives help build community pride and support positive development for future leaders.
