Greenville updates garbage pickup schedule amid landfill closure

The City of Greenville announced Thursday that garbage pickup has been temporarily disrupted due to unsafe driving and road conditions caused by recent weather. The landfill remains closed, prompting officials to set up overflow bins at several locations throughout the city.

Residents are limited to bagged household garbage and are encouraged to use the designated overflow bins. The city has identified specific locations in each ward: Reed Road behind the city compound for Wards 1 and 6; Frisby Park for Ward 2; Ward’s Recreation Center for Wards 3 and 5; and the VFW on North Theobald for Ward 4.

City officials emphasized safety as the top priority and thanked residents for their patience. Normal garbage collection services are expected to resume once road conditions improve, according to Mayor Errick D. Simmons.

The city continues to monitor weather conditions and will provide updates as necessary. Residents are advised to stay safe and follow local announcements for further information.
