Greenville to hold emergency storm preparedness meeting as winter weather approaches
The city of Greenville will hold an emergency winter storm preparedness and safety meeting Thursday afternoon amid an approaching severe winter storm, according to city officials.
Mayor Errick D. Simmons called the meeting for 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the city council chambers. The session will be livestreamed and include city leadership, public safety officials, emergency management representatives, utilities, and community partners.
The purpose is to review current conditions and coordinate response plans to protect residents and businesses. The city urges residents to stay informed, limit travel, and prepare for potential hazards such as freezing temperatures, ice, and power outages.
In a statement, Simmons said the city has taken proactive steps to safeguard its water system from the cold. He assured residents that utility crews have measures in place to maintain water service and protect infrastructure during the storm.
Simmons emphasized the importance of community vigilance. He encouraged residents to prepare their homes, check on vulnerable neighbors, and avoid unnecessary travel. The city said it will provide updates as the weather conditions develop.
