Greenville residents gather for community health fair focused on heart health

More than 200 residents gathered in Greenville for the Mayor’s Health Council’s Spirit of the Heart Community Health Fair, highlighting the community’s focus on prevention and wellness. The event aimed to promote healthier lifestyles and increase awareness of heart disease and related health issues.

Mayor Errick D. Simmons praised the efforts, thanking event organizers and partners, including the Association of Black Cardiologists and various local organizations. He emphasized the importance of community collaboration in addressing health disparities affecting residents of color.

Remelda Lewis, coordinator of the Mayor’s Health Council, noted that the event was about more than discussion. It was about taking action on health concerns like high blood pressure, diabetes, and nutrition. Lewis said strong hearts lead to strong homes and neighborhoods, contributing to Greenville’s overall resilience.

The city partnered with hospitals, healthcare providers, faith leaders, nonprofits, and volunteers to offer screenings and distribute health information. The event reflects Greenville’s ongoing commitment to building a healthier, safer community for all residents.
