Greenville partners to combat blight and foster community growth
Mayor Errick D. Simmons and Ward 6 Councilman Tyrone Cook announced a partnership with the Washington County Economic Alliance to address blight in Greenville, Mississippi. The effort aims to transform vacant and abandoned properties into opportunities for growth.
Simmons emphasized that blight no longer defines Greenville, citing the city’s renewed focus on progress and community development. “Every abandoned structure we address is a chance to rebuild. Every vacant lot is an opportunity for new housing, new business, and new life,” he said.
The leaders praised the collaboration with the Washington County Economic Alliance and Delta Compass. They also recognized contractor Kenneth Aaron for being awarded the demolition contract, a key step in the city’s revitalization efforts.
Simmons stated that Greenville is committed to confronting challenges directly and turning them into opportunities. “We are not just removing blight—we are replacing it with purpose and possibility,” he said. “Together, we are turning vision into action, block by block.”
