Greenville Mayor’s Youth Council Hosts Play on Women’s Suffrage History

Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons and the city’s Mayor’s Youth Council are inviting residents to a special event focused on women’s suffrage history. The performance, titled “Sojourner & Susan & Ida & Alice: A History of Women’s Suffrage” (also known as “Lawbreakers!”), is presented by New Stage Theatre.

The play, written by Diana Grisanti, aims to bring to life the stories of women who challenged injustice and fought for the right to vote. Organizers say it highlights the courage, conviction, and sacrifice of these trailblazing figures.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, at 10 a.m. at T.L. Weston Middle School, located at 901 Archer St. in Greenville. The organizers encourage students, families, educators, faith leaders, and community members to attend and learn from this living lesson in civic engagement and equality.

Mayor Simmons’s office emphasizes that the production serves as an opportunity to honor those who helped expand democracy and to inspire future leaders in Greenville. The event aims to reinforce the importance of organized action and persistent effort in achieving progress, according to organizers.

Community members are encouraged to gather and witness this celebration of history in motion, with the hope of inspiring the next generation of civic leaders.
