Greenville Mayor Thanks Congressman Thompson for $850,000 Federal Grant for Homeless Services
Greenville, Miss. — Mayor Errick D. Simmons expressed gratitude Tuesday to Congressman Bennie G. Thompson for securing $850,000 in Congressionally Designated Spending for The Sacred Space in Greenville.
The federal funding is designated to support an organization that provides transitional housing, job training, workforce development, and assistance to individuals and families facing homelessness, Simmons said in a statement.
Simmons highlighted that the funding will help move people from crisis to stability and provide vital services during a time of economic hardship and housing instability. He credited Thompson for his ongoing commitment to the Mississippi Delta, noting the congressman’s efforts to ensure federal resources reach underserved communities.
Because of this investment, Greenville is better equipped to expand its services and restore hope for residents in need, Simmons added. The city, Washington County, and the broader Mississippi Delta region look forward to the positive impact of the funds, he said.
Thompson’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
