Greenville man behind bars after reckless chase on icy roads
Greenville police responded Saturday to reports of a reckless driver on Highway 82 and Colorado Street. Officers initially located a Lincoln Town Car but lost sight of it as the driver fled the scene, according to police.
Authorities observed the suspect vehicle later driving erratically around Raceway Road and Highway 82. When officers attempted a traffic stop on the 3000 block of Highway 82 East, the driver refused to stop and continued driving recklessly amid falling winter weather.
The driver, identified as 28-year-old Robert Black of Greenville, spun the vehicle around at Colorado and Highway 82 before fleeing south on Highway 1 toward the bypass. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department assisted in stopping the vehicle on Highway 1 near Highway 454, where Black was taken into custody.
Black faces multiple charges, including felony fleeing, driving with a suspended license, failure to obey traffic control, reckless driving three counts, and careless driving two counts. He was transported to the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility and awaits his initial court appearance.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty, police said.
