Greenville hosts Spirit of the Heart Weekend to promote heart health awareness

The city of Greenville and Mayor’s Health Council are partnering with community and health leaders for the Spirit of the Heart Weekend, aimed at raising awareness about heart health. The event includes a community health fair and a church message, both scheduled for February 21-22.

The health fair will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wards Recreation Center. Residents can receive free blood pressure, cholesterol, and PAD screenings, as well as health information, giveaways, and entertainment, according to organizers.

On Sunday, a special message from the pulpit is scheduled from 9:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. The sermon will feature Dr. Foluso Fakorede and Dr. Albert Mark Hines discussing heart health as part of the Every Heart Counts campaign, officials said.

Mayor Errick D. Simmons emphasized the importance of early detection and prevention, urging residents to participate in both events. “Heart disease continues to impact families across our community, but together we can change that story through education, prevention, and early detection,” he said. “I encourage every resident to come out, get screened, get informed, and take an active role in protecting their heart health — because every heart truly counts.”
