Greenville Hosts Cervical Cancer Awareness Event Focused on Prevention and Wellness

The City of Greenville, Mississippi, hosted a cervical cancer awareness event Monday at the Buster Brown Center, organized by the Mayor’s Health Council in partnership with Greenville Parks & Recreation and the MS Delta Family Residency Clinic.

The event included a chair exercise session focused on healthy movement, along with educational talks on prevention and early detection of cervical cancer. Community members participated in conversations about women’s health and wellness.

Dr. Brent Smith served as the guest speaker, sharing health insights with attendees. Mrs. Remelda Lewis, coordinator of the Mayor’s Health Council, and her team were recognized for their efforts in health education and outreach, according to organizers.

Mayor Errick D. Simmons emphasized the importance of early detection, stating, “Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when detected early. I encourage all women to stay current with routine screenings and speak with healthcare providers about prevention, including the HPV vaccine.”

Organizers expressed gratitude to partners, healthcare professionals, and community members who helped make the event successful and impactful.
