Greenville High Seniors Vote for the First Time, Mayor Simmons Says

Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons expressed gratitude to Greenville Public School District officials for facilitating a historic moment for seniors at Greenville High School.

Simmons thanked Superintendent Dr. Ilean Richards, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Terrance Hill, Principal Wardell, and educators Lakecia Hearn and Chiconna Bowman for ensuring students had the opportunity to vote for the first time. He said these moments highlight how education, encouragement, and leadership foster civic engagement.

In a statement, Simmons noted that the day also coincided with the nation honoring Jesse Jackson Sr., adding, “Today’s young voters show us something powerful: Hope is still alive — and it lives in the voices and participation of the next generation. Greenville is proud of these students as they take their first step as engaged citizens and future leaders.”
