Greenville flags lowered to half-staff in honor of Rev. Jesse L. Jackson

Greenville, Miss. — Mayor Errick D. Simmons has ordered all city flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, a prominent figure in the Civil Rights Movement.

Rev. Jackson was a protégé of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and a lifelong advocate for justice, equality, and economic empowerment. He spent decades fighting for voting rights, social justice, and opportunities for marginalized communities across the United States.

“Reverend Jesse Jackson dedicated his life to expanding the promise of America to those who had been denied it,” Mayor Simmons said. “His voice echoed in the halls of power and in the streets of protest, reminding our nation that justice requires courage, faith, and relentless commitment. Greenville joins the nation in mourning his passing and honoring his extraordinary legacy.”

City flags will remain at half-staff until after the celebration of Jackson’s life, as a symbol of respect and remembrance, according to city officials.
