Greenville Fire Chief Ruben Brown retires after 33-year career

Greenville Fire Chief Ruben Brown is retiring after more than 33 years with the Greenville Fire Department, according to a statement from Mayor Errick D. Simmons.

In the statement, Simmons praised Brown’s leadership, integrity, and commitment to public safety. Brown served as fire chief for 13 years and was the first African American president of the Mississippi Fire Association.

During his career, Brown led efforts to improve safety standards and expand community outreach. His influence extended beyond Greenville to state and national levels, Simmons said, noting his involvement in faith-based initiatives, economic development, workforce programs, and youth engagement.

Simmons described Brown as a mentor, community leader, and friend. The mayor expressed gratitude for Brown’s service and legacy, which he said has made Greenville and Mississippi safer and stronger.

Brown is recognized for breaking barriers and serving with humility and compassion. His impact, Simmons added, will be felt for generations to come.
