Greenville community hosts Spirit of the Heart event focused on faith and health

Greenville, Miss. — The Spirit of the Heart event at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church on Sunday focused on merging faith and health. The gathering featured a sermon from Dr. Albert Mark Hines and health insights from Dr. Foluso Fakorede.

Dr. Hines delivered a heartfelt message emphasizing that faith is more than words — it is a way of life. He encouraged attendees to trust God, care for their bodies, and support one another, according to organizers.

Dr. Fakorede, a leader in cardiovascular health, provided practical advice on preventing heart disease. He stressed the importance of knowing your numbers, recognizing symptoms, and taking early action to save lives, organizers said.

Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons called the event more than a program, describing it as ministry in motion. He thanked the Association of Black Cardiologists, the Mayor’s Health Council, faith leaders, and residents who attended.

“Greenville is strongest when we care for the whole person — mind, body, and spirit,” Simmons said. The event aimed to promote holistic health and community resilience.
