Domestic incident leads to drug and gun charges in Greenville
Greenville police responded to a shooting incident Tuesday evening at 738 W. Union. Officers arrived around 6:35 p.m. and made contact with a woman who said she shot her boyfriend while he was assaulting her, according to authorities.
While assisting the victim with a gunshot wound to the side, officers noticed a controlled substance in plain view. A search warrant was obtained, leading to the discovery of multiple firearms and large quantities of narcotics at the residence, police said.
Larineisha Askew, 28, of Greenville, was initially arrested on charges of domestic aggravated assault for shooting her 32-year-old boyfriend, Johnathan Sutton. However, a judge later dropped domestic charges against Askew after evidence indicated she was acting in self-defense.
Sutton was charged with multiple drug and gun offenses, including trafficking in marijuana, fentanyl, and MDMA, as well as possession of firearms by a felon and a machine gun conversion device. He was arrested after being released from the hospital on March 4.
Both suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty, police said.
