DeSoto County seeks no bond for Horn Lake shooting suspect with new charges
DeSoto County prosecutors are asking a court to deny bond for Taderius Young, 22, of Horn Lake, following a shooting at a local store earlier this week. Young was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the incident at Discount Market on Goodman Road, according to the district attorney’s office.
Young is currently held at the DeSoto County Adult Detention Center. In addition to the assault charge, prosecutors also filed a separate charge of auto burglary stemming from a different incident. That charge was secured through a secret indictment in February, officials said.
The district attorney’s office is arguing that Young poses a danger to the community and should be held without bond under Mississippi law. District Attorney Matthew Barton said Young has indicated that the community is unsafe without him in custody.
“Young has made it clear that our community isn’t safe without him in custody,” Barton said. “That is why we are asking the court to deny his bond and keep him exactly where he belongs, behind bars.”
Barton emphasized his office’s commitment to prosecuting violent offenders and protecting the public. “We will pursue every legal avenue to ensure offenders are held accountable and kept off the streets,” he said. “If you bring violence into our community, we will find you, charge you, and prosecute you.”
The Horn Lake Police Department conducted the investigation. Further details will be released as the case develops, authorities said.
