Congressional funding to support Mississippi sheriff departments

Mississippi Congressman Bennie G. Thompson announced a federal grant aimed at supporting law enforcement across the district. The $1 million in Community Project Funding will be allocated in 2025 and 2026 to ten sheriff departments, according to a statement from Thompson’s office.

The funding will directly benefit residents by enhancing public safety efforts throughout Mississippi’s Second Congressional District. Thompson plans to hold a press conference next week to discuss the details of the grant.

The event is scheduled for Jan. 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, located at 205 Raymond Bolton Road in Bolton, Mississippi, the release said.
