Cleveland man fatally shot Thursday night; suspect arrested
A man was shot and killed Thursday night in Cleveland, police said. The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. near the intersection of South Chrisman Avenue and White Street.
Officers arrived to find 22-year-old Jamonte Johnson unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Pafford Ambulance Service responded but pronounced Johnson dead at the scene, according to Cleveland police.
On Friday, police arrested and charged 22-year-old Chadrick Smith, also of Cleveland, with Johnson’s murder. Smith was taken to the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility, where he is being held pending an initial court appearance on charges of murder, tampering with evidence, and discharging a firearm inside city limits.
