Child injured in shooting at Delta Health Systems

Delta police responded to a shooting at 1400 East Union, Delta Health Systems, around 5:40 p.m. Monday. Officers arrived to find a 6-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the leg, authorities said.

The child’s father, Justin Lowe Sr., told police he was in the restroom when he heard a gunshot. He then found his son had been shot with a 9mm handgun and took him to the emergency room, according to police reports.

The child received treatment for a non-life-threatening injury but was later transferred to another facility for further care. Authorities arrested Lowe on a charge of child neglect. He is currently awaiting an initial court appearance at the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty, police said.
