Bolivar County declares State of Emergency amid ice storm

The Bolivar County Board of Supervisors declared a State of Emergency on Tuesday as an ice storm approaches the region. They authorized the use of the Bolivar County Expo and the Courthouse in Rosedale as emergency shelters for residents who lose power.

The shelters will open Wednesday at 8 a.m. and are available for residents affected by power outages. Officials advised residents to bring medications, extra clothing, food, and water. They also recommended making alternative arrangements for pets.

The town of Merigold will open its emergency shelter at 107 Lee Street when freezing rain begins. For more information, residents can contact the town at 662-748-2765.
